Flight

Hey Everyone

So, for those of you who don't know, I had my CD player taken out of my car this week. Suddenly, it stopped ejecting CDs. I bought an extended warranty on it, but in my infinite wisdom, didn't keep the radio that the Saturn had come with, so now I'm jam-less in the car.

Never the mind though, my head is like a jukebox.. I discovered this as I was driving Saturday and in my boredom, started to sing a bit.

Highlights included tracks by The Flight of the Conchords.. If you haven't heard of 'em, they have a show on HBO.. a humorous look at the independent music business.. Check 'em out on You Tube.

What's He Listening To This Week?

In an effort to help those who are interested, I've decided to create a blog with all the music I've been listening to. I know, I like to read other blogs and see what they're listening to.. Sometimes someone will mention an artist or a band I hadn't heard of before and I'll go check it out.

This Week's "Check It Out" List:

Dennis Wilson- Pacific Ocean Blue
This long out of print album has finally gotten the reissue treatment it deserves. Dennis Wilson, better known as drummer for the Beach Boys, was the first solo Beach Boy to complete an album. This album runs the gamut as far as sound and sonic pallet, but it's incredible. His husky voice, combined with "feel good" arrangements, creates an album that should proudly stand next to any Beach Boys album. Highlights include "River Song" and "Pacific Ocean Blue"

Jackie Greene- Giving Up The Ghost
I heard this record this past weekend at Borders. I listened to about half of it, right there in the store. I really dug it. It sounds similar to a Howie Day album, but better. It's really awesome, singer songwriter fare.

Blue Floyd- Beginnings
Made of members of the Allman Brothers Band and the Black Crowes, the group reinvents the Pink Floyd experience. Less trippy than Floyd, they've managed to re-create Floyd favorites and turn them into slow burning blues jams. Certainly not life changing, but is nice to hear Floyd tracks, reimagined.

Penguin Cafe Orchestra: Music From the Penguin Cafe
I accidentally got into this group! I got a copy of this first album and fell in love with it. Brian Eno meets folk. It's filled mostly with instrumentals, but they leave you begging for more. It's an incredible disc. It may not be for everyone, but it's certainly something to try out, if you're looking for something completely off the wall to inspire you.
